Katsushika Hokusai may not sound familiar to you... but you may recognize his art, especially this month's Masters Night featured masterpiece: The Great Wave! Mount Fuji was Hokusai's obsession, and he painted it thirty-six different ways (including this one!) on wooden blocks in his most well-known series, "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji."
Hokusai was a famous Japanese painter in the 18th and 19th century, and painted over 30,000 pieces of art! He was also well-known for his illustrations on board games, lanterns, dioramas, and even published his own drawing guide books for his students!
We'll be talking more about Hokusai and his art in this month's Masters Night as we recreate his most famous piece with a step-by-step tutorial from Ms. Caroline!
