Flowers were Georgia O'Keeffe's favorite subjects and she often painted them like you see these poppies here: large, imposing, up-close, and taking up the entire canvas. She wanted her paintings to make busy New Yorkers stop and take notice of the flowers they so often passed by; she wanted people to experience the flowers the way she did.
Her flower paintings often took on an abstract quality, focusing on the color, texture, and shape of her natural subjects.
We'll be talking more about O'Keeffe's artistic style while we paint this work step-by-step together at Masters Night this month. You don't need to be painting pro to take home a masterpiece - we'll teach you how here.
