project objectives -- Issaquah week 10 painting and drawing camps

Want to learn more about the awesome art created by our campers this week? See below for a full list of the projects (and their objectives) created during week ten of camp. Projects completed by students vary between age groups.

Grid Project
Objective: Demonstrate the grid method by creating one of the following variations below.

Acrylic Sky/Weather Painting
Objective: Demonstrate different sky types by using acrylic paints, color schemes and varying brushstrokes.

Watercolor Resist
Objective: Demonstrate various watercolor techniques and how to use resists to help preserve the whites of the paper.

Posterized Painting
Objective: Students will show the relationship between color and value by creating a posterized painting.

Blown/Drip Watercolor Painting
Objective: Demonstrate wet-into-wet techniques to create a watercolor painting with energy.

Fruit Cross-Section
Objective: Demonstrate the ability to create various textures, highlights and shadows through various applications with paints. ​

Positive/Negative Space
Objective: Demonstrate an understanding of space by coloring and/or shading the negative space instead of the positive. Demonstrate an effective/well-developed composition.

Foreshortening
Objective: Demonstrate a foreshortened drawing by focusing on perspective.

Travel Sketch: “Plein Air” Drawing
Objective: Demonstrate basic landscape elements by creating a plein air drawing.

Chibi Character/Manga Portrait/Comic

Objective: Demonstrate different cartooning techniques by creating a Chibi, Manga, or Comic character(s).

Master Study of Georgia O’Keeffe
Objective: Demonstrate understanding of specific techniques by recreating one of O’Keeffe’s famous pieces. Students should demonstrate a dynamic composition and show how to effectively blend oil and/or chalk pastels.

Stained Glass Mandala
Objective: Demonstrate radial symmetry and symbolism by creating a stained-glass mandala. ​
